My heart belongs to the details. I actually always found them to be more important than the big picture. Nothing works without details. They are everything, the baseline of quality

MySQL User Password

April 25th, 2013

I just had to set up a MySQL database on a WAMPServer installation and I could not for the life of me remember get to login via phpMyAdmin. After some digging I found that after initial install it is necessary to set a password for the user, in this case root, that you are logging in with. I must have done this before but I rarely use the MySQL part of a WAMP installation.The relevant MySQL console command is SET PASSWORD and to execute it is is a simple matter of opening the WAMP menu via the notification area/system tray icon by selecting MySQL>MySQL console

SET PASSWORD [FOR user] =
    {
        PASSWORD('cleartext password')
      | OLD_PASSWORD('cleartext password')
      | 'encrypted password'
    }

Example usage:

SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost = PASSWORD('your_password_here');
